animals are harmed when you take their eggs and milk. i know no one wants to hear it. but it’s as bad as the meat industry. just telling truths. you can google it. i appreciate you trying to limit the amount of animal products…people need to know how to transition. don’t think i’m hating on you, i just want people to know the truth. <3

This is easy to make vegan, just use vegan parm, margarine, and egg substitute of your choosing, I used orgrans no egg – egg replacer!

I made these and they really are great! I also hate mushrooms but love these. Even my 7 year old loves these and doesn’t believe that they are mushroom. Hell yeah! Thanks for the recipe John.

depending on what vegetarian you are this recipe would be good for one of them eco vegetarian who use animal products but the traditional vegetarian wouldn’t use this or they would sub the egg and butter and cheese

I don’t know how you keep your mushrooms so white…might are quite dark, so they didn’t brown so much as blacken.

These are delicious!! Just made them and they taste better than meaty meatballs. I fried them instead of baking and only left them in the refrigerator for about 10 mins instead of 4 hours and they were still easy to roll

What do you think about chick pea flour instead of oats & breadcrumbs? Also maybe I could use chick peas or kidney beans for replacing the eggs do you think they would work? Egg is meat so technically they aren’t meatless meatballs unless I replace them you see 🙂 I’m looking forward to making a vegan version 🙂

just made these meatless meatballs with Chef John’s mushroom gravy recipe. New meatless dinner option. Thinking about a meatless meatloaf or Salisbury steaks besides the original option in a pasta ragu. They are very tasty right out the oven so perhaps burgers too! Thanks Chef John!

Most Parmesan isn’t vegetarian. If you really want it completely veg and not just meat free, try looking for “vegetable rennet” or “microbial rennet” on the label. Normal rennet in traditional Parmesan comes from calf stomachs.

So many people are angry at this guy personally. For all they know, the eggs and dairy could have come from lovingly hand raised pets that live in the lap of luxury. But no – let’s just all assume the ingredients came from the few horrific factory farms that abuse the animals and are illegal in most areas. Because, you know, that suits your little agenda more!
