Carne Guisada Recipe
2 pounds of chuck roast with excess fat removed and cut into chunks.
Veggies
1/2 large onion diced
2 roma tomatoes diced
2 jalapeno peppers finely diced
4 cloves garlic minced
Spices
1 bay leaf
1/2 tablespoon cumin
1 teaspoon Mexican oregano
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Working in batches brown the meat in hot oil and remove from pan.
If needed add more oil to pan and add veggies and spices. As veggies start to release moister scrape the bottom of the pan to release brown bits. After brown bits are released return meat to pan, reduce heat to medium low and cover, simmer for a minimum of 2 hours but 4 or 5 is better. 30 minutes before serving add a handful of cilantro, cook until stew is desired thickness.

Great looking Tex-mex James! The sauce of the stew and your presentation it looks delicious!
This looks so good. Probably better the 2nd day, anyway.
More liquid would have made it more tender, I love the recipe and will try it cooked with refreshing the liquid with beef stock. Thank you .. It promises to be delicious 🙂
@michelle B I love it also, just need to work on my tortilla making skills.
I just ate that and OMG I pooped my pants

Tex Mex beef tip and gravy > what they do here in Texas, just make a beef tip gravey. he hee i always have brisket so i use that too. They don’t use tomato’s in it , garlic, onions jalapeno’s No BAY LEAF Cumin yes salt and pepper I love Carne Guisada on soft flour tortilla YUMMY
glad i watched jb tonight great channel guy
James this looks amazing. You can taste it through the monitor. Hope you’re doing well, Merry Christmas to you and yours!
Fabulous!!!
Looks good, I am going to make this tonight.
That looks soooo good!
This is really good. I made it with the exception of the bay leaf (because I’m lazy and didn’t shop for any) and I cheaped out with the beef. It’s delicious and I was surprised how well it came together and thickened. Better beef like yours would have given me a better texture. Next time! Definitely making this again.
WOW!!! That looks Damn great James. I must try this. Right into my CULINARY playlist. Thank you. Happy Holidays. ROCK ON!!!!!!
just watched ya on JB’s show, great job! I’m gonna make this stew tommorow on a Big green Egg, over the coals, smoke should do it well…
Yum, this looks great!!
Made this yesterday. Excellent.
That’s carne asada. Same thing with gravy is carne guisada greetings from Deep South Texas
Looks and sounds really delicious james. Could you do the meat in the slow cooker.
Hi im from Mexico, this version is the Tex Mex… actually in some places they add some cheese at the end in that juicy gravy and its really tasteful.
Now the Mexican version doesnt add flour, or at leats never seen it that way. its just a stew or fried meat with tomatoe, pepper and onions. (Id preffer the TexMex version)
Nice cook James.I Love Mexican food that was right up my alley. Thanks for sharing
looks soooooooooo good .. but i dont have bay leaf or spanish seasoning .. any substitution
YUM!
Oh yeah buddy that’s all me right there. My favorite comfort food. Spanish rice and homemade tortillas.
I’m sorry but that is not carne guisada
awesome job! love it
Now there is a very hearty dish – perfect for this time of year up here in the north east.
Like to give this a try in a Dutch over as well.
Bravo!
Thanks! This looks so good. I will definitely have to make this. Is the Mexican Oregano different from the McCormick brand oregano we have at the grocery store?
He plated this better than the restaurant plates it lol ❤I making this tonight
Hi James, you served that with mexican yellow rice and refried beans, right? Looks delicious!
James, You absolutely rock my friend! This is outstanding!
The only liquid that should be used in this TexMex dish is beer. The alcohol will cook out for those of you who don’t drink. You did a great job and the flavor is probably better because you left it sit overnight. Thanks for this recipe.
This made my night! Marry meeee!!!!! Hahaha
Jk but great video
