Ground Black Bear POOH Burgers ~ Game Meat Recipe

This was my first time cooking and tasting Pennsylvania black
bear. I decided to make bear burgers from the ground meat.
They turned out delicious topped with caramellized onions
and gruyere cheese.

I have tried brains, tongue, buffalo, elk and deer but never black bear. I never even heard of eating bear. Are the bears raised for eating like cows etc. Very interesting Tess. Oh I have tried fried ants from Columbia too. Right into my CULINARY playlist. ROCK ON!!!!!!

Awesome looking burger Tess! I would love to try bear meat, but we don’t have wild bears here in Indiana. I guess that’s good in a way, I don’t have to worry about being mauled when I’m in the woods hunting more harmless animals! Lol!

Tango Joe says:

I have to say Tess that this is the first time I have ever watched someone cook with bear. Darn nice looking burgers. Now I have to go on a bear meat hunt.

Erna Lampman says:

I’m using your recipe for a second year for our annual neighborhood “game night!” It’s so delicious and your instructions wee simple and clear. Thanks!

Bizal008 says:

unfortunately between the the caramelize onions and the Worcestershire sauce it looks like you did everything possible to cover the natural taste of the ground bear meat.

White Thunder BBQ says:

Winnie the pooh never looked sooooo good! I bet it was sweet like honey.

TosTinMan says:

Looks good Tess! I’ve never had bear. Cooper’s Mill, that must be good relish with that name.:) I haven’t heard about David Allan Coe in a long time. Love my country music!

Amna Kazmi says:

Dear tess, I am your regular follower. Saw this video and had to share that Bear meat can make you very sick. As omnivores, bears often carry the larvae of a nasty parasite, Trichina spiralis. Eating undercooked bear meat can cause trichinosis, which can cause severe sickness or even death in humans. Please be safe and don’t consume it.

Richard Blaine says:

I have eaten game meat for half of my life but I have never had Bear before. Your choice of ingredients for these burgers hits the nail on the head! Delicious!

bebebutterfield1 says:

Thanks, Tess . . .  I’d still be worried about them tasty “gamey”, though  🙁    Perhaps I’m just so used to beef that I’m reluctant to try anything else.   Thumbs up,  Jersey Joe  🙂

I Just Like To Cook says:

Very interesting Tess!  Were can you find bear meat?  We cook a lot of Deer were I am from and you cant find that unless you know a hunter or hunt yourself.

You are not suppose to eat bears
