Hi! I used to make french toast by using Texas Toast. After I saw your recipe, I tried it out and realized that french baguett is perfect for french toast. The outside is kinda crispy and the inside is very chewy! Appreciate your recipe!

SangtotheDy says:

I definitely have to try this. My parents used to do something like this, but it was more like an off version of elephant ears.

Our “recipe”:

Ingredients:
– Vietnamese baguette (banh mi, not the sandwich)
– Margarine (or salted butter, unsalted if you don’t like sweet and salty)
– Granulated sugar

Slice baguette diagonally or not, your choice. I prefer mine with thin-medium slices.
Spread a good amount of margarine one side of each slice.
Dip buttered side in sugar.
Place on a baking tray with buttered side up.
Bake in a toaster oven or regular oven. I don’t know how high of a temperature. Whatever temperature you usually bake bread at, lol. It doesn’t matter as long as the bread gets toasted and has a crunch. I eyeball mine in a toaster oven. Just don’t burn it. 😛

Louison says:

You should try to make it out of old bread (by old, I mean rock hard bread). French toast original name is “pain perdu”, which litteraly means “lost bread”. French toats taste even better when the bread is severeal days old 🙂
